OK,
this is a little story about my mom, me and our Duel.
My mom is 58 years old teacher in elementary school. She did play few games with me in past years, but never was someone who will come to my place to play games.
20 days ago my wife and our baby daughter went abroad for holliday while I finish few thing tat are on my to do list, and amongst them is renovation of our apartment.
I went back to my moms place to stay there while my apartment is a mess.
One day I had 7 wonders Duel in my backpack.
"Mom, wanna try one new game?"
"Well, I have to get up eary, but lets try it."
I explained rules, it took me 15 min or so, and while I was expaining them to her, she looked weird...
"You think we can try one round?"
"Go! I'll be first player." She said.
During first game there were few of:
"Can I do this?"
"So this goes with this?"
And we finished. Can't remember who won.
I wanted to put the game back in the box.
"What are you doing?! Where is rulebook?"
She took it, turned it on backside, and started to create first age pyramid.
She setted up the game, and said, "Go. You can be first."
I was amazed!
"Mom, these are cards you can take. I think that you should..."
"SHHHHH!!! Shut it. Let me think!"
Game finished 62-59 for me.
It was midnight, and I had to get up at 6 am, so in the box the game goes...
"Hey, one more. Cmon!"
Setup, again!!!
She is not speaking anymore. She is planing! My mom went AP!!!
She won. 60-58.
"I can go to bed now, if you are afraid of one more try?"
We played 6 games in the row.
Next day I went home and got few new games.
Since than, it was 2 weeks ago, we played
Voyages of Marco Polo 2x
Stone age 4x
Ticket to ride 1x
Diamonds Xx
Quadropolis 9x
Hanabi Xx
Castle panic 2x
Istanbul 3x
One some of theese my sister joined up with us. This gaming with mom (and sis) is that important for me that I am not logging these plays on BGG but in a small note book that she took out to log games in.
Tonight, I was a bit tired, and went to bed early.
Knock on the door.
"What mom?" (I missed this in last 4 years of living with my wife)
"How tired you are?"
"I'm fine, you need me to help you with something?"
"Yeah, please, can you come to dining room."
"I'll be right there, in sec."
Went there, and there on the table was first age of 7 wonders Duel on the table.
"You are first player" she said.
